Thomsen Center Archeodome
archeodomeThe Thomsen Center Archeodome covers the open archeology dig in the prehistoric Indian village and provides visitors year-round access. The 10,000-square-foot building encloses two full lodges on its exposed earthen floor. It includes a full laboratory, darkroom, computer classroom, and video conferencing studio. The site is the only preserved and protected archeological site open to the public in the state of South Dakota. The Archeodome provides an enclosed archeological teaching and research facility—one of very few such facilities in North America.

Boehnen Museum
boehnenThe Boehnen Museum exhibits include a reconstructed earth lodge, one of nearly 70 believed to be buried at the site. Other exhibits describe the extensive trade networks, pottery, tools, and spear points.

Native American Art
Unique Native American art and crafts made by South Dakota Native American artists are a feature of our Indian Village gift shop. The store is located in the same building as the Boehnen Museum.

Building Bridges to Native American Communities
The Indian Village will be offering additional cultural experiences to provide visitors with a connection to past- and present-day Native American communities. You will get a taste of how Native Americans lived in South Dakota during the era of earth lodges and teepees. If you want a full menu of Native heritage and traditions, the Indian Village will have information about how to visit an area reservation, attending events such as our outdoor Brule concert, and much more.
